Introduction
Arts &
Culture in South Africa have always been pivotal and play a central &
crucial role in helping our people to maintain their dignity and identity.
Given the 300 plus years of cultural depravation and oppression, it is a wonder
that some strong elements of our oral, dancing, singing, acting, painting,
sculpturing, storytelling traditions are still here. This can most certainly
be attributed to our nations' resilient and creative spirit.
At this point
in our History it is important to realize that activities in the arts and
culture field cannot be separated from the socioeconomic ills that plague
our country. Therefore, it is imperative to have an approach that seeks to
find ways and means to educate & entertain yet at the same time help and
heal the nations wounds through artistic-economic activity. It is vital to
make arts participants aware that the arts are also an industry through which
one can generate income.
